Puppy Mill
Awareness Day!
Puppy Mill Awareness
Day (PMAD) is held every September in
Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, known as "The Puppy
Mill Capital of the East Coast." Lancaster has
more puppy mills per capita than any other
county in the United States.
Puppy mills are
filthy, overcrowded, breeding facilities that
mass produce puppies for sale. There are
thousands of puppy mills across the country,
producing over 500,000 puppies per
year. These facilities, most of which
are inspected and licensed by the USDA are
notorious for their filthy, overcrowded
conditions and the unhealthy dogs they
produce.
